Club Rides
Wrekinsport aim to offer a wide variety of planned rides throughout the year. Although we are predominantly a road-focused club, we do offer occasional rides aimed at those with Mountain or CX bikes. In addition, we run a number of competitive and/or group events throughout the year. A typical week in the Wrekinsport calendar looks like:
The evening events on Wednesday and Thursday will only run whilst there is sufficient daylight. Typically this is between April and the end of September / early October. You don't have to be a member of Wrekinsport CC to ride with us. If you participate in more than three Thursday or Sunday club rides, we ask that you join us if you wish to continue riding with the club. This requirement does not apply to Time Trials and other organised club events where separate entry arrangements apply to all entrants. Wednesday - Time Trial The 2024 Time Trial season is now underway. Wrekinsport CC TIME TRIALS 2024 1. The entry fee for all riders for 2024 will be £5. 2. Signing on for all events will be at Eyton Village hall, Promotion of any of these events is dependant upon timekeepers, a pusher off and marshall, if you are able to help any week please contact Glyn Jervis, without this support the events cannot go ahead! You can find out more about the club TT route, including directions, a GPX file and a downloadable PDF map/information card by clicking here. Thursday Rides Our Thursday ride programme runs throughout late spring, summer and early autumn. We don't have identified leaders or destinations for our Thursday rides. Members generally tend to turn up, see who is about and decide on a mutually acceptable set of routes and destinations. Subject to rider numbers and and weather, we aim to have two rides on the evening: The "Antisocial" ride, for the speed demons.
This group of cyclists leaves the Spar at Shawbirch in Telford and has no Cafe stop. This is not a "NO DROP" bike ride. The "Social" ride, for intermediate/improving cyclists
This group of bike riders leaves the Spar at Shawbirch in Telford and has no Cafe stop. This is a "NO DROP" bike ride This group will be cycling at a pace suitable for intermediate/improving cyclists - this will normally be between 15 and 16mph, but may be slightly faster if the group wish. The group of cyclists returns to the Spar at Shawbirch in Telford Sunday Rides Sunday – A Ride
This group of cyclists leaves the Wellington Civic & Leisure Centre at 9:30am and covers 50 miles plus with a cafe stop. This group may merge with Sunday B Group depending on number of riders on the day. This is a "NO DROP" bike ride This group will ride at a structured steady pace averaging 18mph plus. The group returns to Wellington Civic & Leisure Centre between 12:45 and 1:30 each week. Sunday – B1 or B2 Ride
Owing to their popularity (especially in the summer months) we try to run two B rides every Sunday. Both rides will depart from the Wellington Civic & Leisure Centre at 9:30am and will cover between 35 and 50 miles – including a café stop. The B rides will normally run to differing destinations and where possible we try to offer a “hilly” and a “flat” alternative. These rides are often very popular, and at busy times we may have restrict group numbers for the safety of all participants and other road users. B Rides typically run at an average pace of between 15 and 16mph, Our aim is to have completed the route and be back at Wellington Civic & Leisure Centre between 12:45 and 1:30 each week. Sunday – C Ride
Our C ride will depart from Wellington Civic & Leisure Centre at 9:30am and will cover between 20 and 25 miles. The ride normally includes a cafe stop. This is a "NO DROP" bike ride and the leader will adjust the pace of the group to suit the slowest rider. This will normally see the group riding at an average speed of 13mph. The group returns to Wellington Civic & Leisure Centre between 12:00 and 12:30 each week. |
