After last year’s Wrekinsport 100 miler went reasonably well we’ll be giving it another go on Saturday June 2nd.

Setting off from Wellington baths there’ll be three groups of ten bike riders, leaving approx 5 minutes apart.

The ‘fast' group will aim to set an average speed of between 16-18mph. The middle group an average of between 14-16mph. The ‘steady’ group will aim for between 12-14 mph.

There’ll be three stops en-route at approx 25/50/75 miles. A quick ‘splash & dash’ at the Spar Baschurch nr Shrewsbury to check on how the groups are going. Perhaps the opportunity to shuffle the pack if riders are struggling or finding it a little slow. Lunch at Alderford (Dearnford) Lake nr Whitchurch and a final stop at Eccleshall nr Stafford- either the Artisan café or the Eddie Merckx bar for something stronger.

It’s as flat a route as I could make it, there’s a couple of ramps, nothing fearsome, total elevation 3360ft over the 100 miles bike ride. However, endurance is the key. Although there’ll be three stops please bring plenty of fluid and snacks & gels. Please make sure you’re wearing a helmet and your bike is in good working order. It’s a no-drop ride but riders are expected to train for the event and keep pace with their group.

As a rough guide, the middle group last year (with a couple of punctures) took 9 hours total including stops.

The route is as above. If you are able to, please download it to your Garmin or GPS device or print out the route if possible
