Tomos Hales continued his strong defence of the Decathlon Evening 10 Series by Wrekinsport Championship with another fine win on a cool, dull evening for Round 7. Hales coped best with a five minute sprinkling of drizzle which reports stated was enough to make the road surface greasy and care had to be taken on corners. Starting a minute after Oli Freeman Hales had taken 7 seconds back at the 2½ mile point, 24 seconds at the 6¼ mile mark, but put in a giant effort on the final lap to catch Freeman as they crossed the finish line virtually together, with Hales recording 21 minutes 47 seconds, Freeman 22:47. This extended Hales’ Series defence by a further point to five points.

Hayley Wells continues to impress and took third place Overall from a field of 15 riders, as well as capturing the Women’s win in 24:12, 10 seconds ahead of Junior Ben Southgate. Wells has a commanding lead of 21 points and looks a shoo-in for the Women’s title already in her first season with Wrekinsport, with nearest challenger Victoria Doran finishing in 31:56.

In the Road Bike Series first-time visitor Jack Ward of Sharrow CC took the win in 25:29; but David Seager extended his lead over Matt Price with a fine 26:31 and was actually seven seconds up on Ward after 2½ miles in a frantic start he paid for, being 29 seconds behind Ward after 6¼ miles and 1:02 behind at the finish.
