The sun finally shone on the Decathlon Evening 10 Series by Wrekinsport as a glorious evening greeted riders for Round 5. With virtually no wind to speak of and warm conditions times were fast, with a tight battle at the head of the standings with the top three split by just 12 seconds. Second and third riders Mark Pritchard and Oli Freeman had come across the finish line the first time on the Long Lane circuit both a second ahead of winner Tomos Hales, but Hales wound things up with a negative split tactic to be clearly ahead after 6¼ miles to be 6 seconds ahead of Pritchard and 16 ahead of Freeman. Freeman managed to pull 4 seconds back on the final circuit however, finishing strong. Hales’ effort of 22 minutes 26 seconds was 29 seconds off his best from Round 3, but enough to extend his Series lead over Freeman.
In the Women’s Series Hayley Wells made it another six point tally for the maximum possible 30 points from 5 rounds, and now holds a commanding 20 point lead. She finished a strong 5th overall in 23:27 and put in a searing last lap as she tried to stay away from minute man Hales, with Hales just overtaking at the final turn. Wells’ turn of speed reversed a four second advantage to Rich Smith at the 6¼ mile point and took a further 20 seconds out of him, clearly showing the competitiveness to not let Hales get away easily.
In the Road Bike Series Peter Jukes took a fine win in 25:36, two seconds ahead of a personal best for Newport Junior Ben Bramford-Hale and 12 seconds ahead of Davis Seager, who moved into the sole lead at the head of the standings.

- Round 6 was cancelled for safety reasons with conditions that could hardly have been more different as all-day persistent rain left standing water, a greasy surface and poor visibility. The club committee will discuss potential for rescheduling.
