Decathlon Evening 10 Series by Wrekinsport - Round 11 2019 report

15 Jul 2019 20:41 | Anonymous member (Administrator)

Continuing road works at Long Lane meant a course change to The Tiddly triangle for Round 11 of the Decathlon Evening 10 Series by Wrekinsport - as riders endured a gruelling five mile stretch directly into a headwind along the A53. With Series leader Rich Smith away on a training break in Majorca two of the chasing pack took advantage to narrow the gap at the top of the Series - although comeback man Tim Beardmore took victory on a fine, sunny evening only spoilt by that wind. Out for a large part of the season due to injury, the Nova Raider has lost no time picking up just where he left off, stopping the watch on 22 minutes 51 seconds for a fine winning margin of 26 seconds over the best placed Wrekinsport rider Rob Jackson.

This was Jackson's first maximum six-pointer of the Series as he pushed out a strong challenge from Loch Leven CRT rider Fraser MacKinnon by 10 seconds with his 23:17 effort. Jackson moved up to third spot in the Series on the strength of this performance but still lies 13 points off the pace - although Tomos Hales is now breathing down Smith's neck just 6 points away from the top after adding five points to his tally. Hales was fourth Overall and second Wrekinsport rider after recording a fine 23:33 and based on his finishing effort he was definitely looking to make hay whilst the sun shone.

In the Road Bike Series no Wrekinsport riders were in competition, meaning Dave Moore could breath a sign of relief as his dominant lead remains undiminished. Best placed Road Bike was Andy Hellowell of Revolutions Racing who crossed the line in 25:17, 1:12 ahead of Decathlon's Phil Roberts.
