The first Series medal was won as Hayley Wells made the most of a late course change to take an unbeatable lead in the Women’s Series on the Waters Upton – Hodnet course in Round 12 of the Decathlon Evening 10 Series by Wrekinsport. Transferred from the Long Lane circuit due to road works narrowing the road at Shawbirch, Wells opened up a 27 points advantage after beating Deb Hutson-Lumb by 15 seconds in a fabulous time of 23 minutes 4 seconds. This was good enough to take a strong 4th place overall as Wells continues a glittering season.
In the Overall race there was no stopping Tomos Hales as he narrowed the gap to Oli Freeman to five points with a superb effort of 20:57. Wells was 1:42 ahead of the chasing pack, with Paramount’s Alvydas Janusauskas getting closest with 22:39. Wells just missed out on a podium spot by a solitary second as Phil Roberts just took third with 23:03.
In the Road Bike Series Matt Price continues to snip away at David Seager’s lead, narrowing it to five points with another win, this time in 26:06 and beating the Series leader by 19 seconds in a race that looks set to go down to the wire.
